WHY AM I HOOKED ??
BECAUSE YOU ARE ADDICTED!
You are dealing with a drug, called NICOTINE. It causes changes in your brain that make you want to use it more and more...it’s not your fault, cigarette manufacturers intended for this to happen.
- NICOTINE IS A ‘DRUG’ and it CAUSES ADDICTION!!
- It is a STIMULANT, one of the main factors, leading to smoking
- It is a SUPER TOXIN deadlier than rattlesnake venom
- It is a POISON released by the tobacco plant to protect it from insects (pesticide, insecticide etc.)
Nicotine causes chemical and biological changes in the brain and nervous system and is as addictive as heroin and cocaine. The mix of nicotine and carbon monoxide in cigarettes causes an increase in heart rate and blood pressure, straining the heart and blood vessels.
By smoking it is one of the fastest and efficient methods to introduce it to your body....when you light a cigarette the nicotine reaches your brain within 10 seconds, it ‘then’ stimulates the ‘addiction gland’ (hypothalamus gland) to produce endorphins (happy hormones) that makes you feel ‘good’ for a while, ‘after’ which you will start to feel ‘not so good’. That’s exactly where the addiction ‘kicks in’ – every time you light a cigarette, your body gets a ‘new shot’ of endorphins which makes you feel ‘good’, BUT again that effect wears off after about 15 minutes...
This is also the reason why no nicotine addiction pills, patches or program works is because your body’s endorphin regulator (hypothalamus) has SHUT DOWN due to constant nicotine consumption!
This condition is known as NICOTINE ADDICTION!!
There are TWO MAIN components that play a role in nicotine addiction: the physical addiction (causes your dependency) and the psychological addiction (MIND – your routines / habits)....most smokers do not understand the DIFFERENCE between the two AND THEREFORE FAIL (don’t succeed) in their attempts to quit!!
Your ‘brain’ is the ‘key’ player in nicotine’s action, in other words: NICOTINE CHANGES ‘HOW’ your ‘BRAIN’ and ‘BODY’ FUNCTIONS.
‘Your’ endorphin production can be reduced or stopped - one way to stop its production is to replace it with another addictive substance known as nicotine.
||ENDORPHINS - ‘feel-good hormone’ or ‘happy hormone’
‘Endorphin’ is short for Endo-Morphine. Its chemistry is very similar to the powerful drug, Morphine.
Endorphin, the body’s own ‘feel-good chemical’ is a natural substance that is placed in our bodies to help us cope with stress, tension and aches.
|Hypothalamus gland - Located just above the brain stem and responsible for releasing endorphins in our body
